The Goals of Nama-Hatta
Nama-Hatta, meaning “marketplace of the holy name,” is a grassroots preaching program founded by Srila Bhaktivinoda Thakura to spread the chanting of the Hare Krishna maha-mantra and the teachings of Gaudiya Vaishnavism. The primary goals of Nama-Hatta include:
1. Spreading the Holy Name – Encouraging the chanting of the Hare Krishna mantra as the primary means of spiritual advancement in the age of Kali.
2. Establishing Devotional Communities – Creating small groups of devotees in villages and cities who practice Krishna consciousness together.
3. Promoting Bhakti (Devotion) in Daily Life – Helping people incorporate devotion into their daily routines, regardless of their social or economic status.
4. Distributing Spiritual Literature – Making the teachings of Lord Chaitanya and the scriptures like the Bhagavad Gita and Srimad Bhagavatam widely available.
5. Facilitating Spiritual Education – Teaching philosophy, scriptures, and practical aspects of bhakti-yoga through regular gatherings, classes, and discussions.
6. Encouraging Congregational Worship – Organizing kirtans, festivals, and other events to bring people together in the service of Krishna.
7. Providing a Structured System of Preaching – Offering a systematic approach where devotees take on roles such as leaders, preachers, and coordinators to expand the movement.
Overall, Nama-Hatta aims to make Krishna consciousness accessible to everyone, fostering spiritual growth and community engagement.
