In Chapter 11, Krishna grants Arjuna a divine vision to see His Universal Form (Viśhvarūpa), which displays His infinite power, omnipresence, and control over creation and destruction. Arjuna, overwhelmed by this vision, realizes Krishna’s supreme position and surrenders to Him.

1. Arjuna Requests to See Krishna’s Universal Form (Verses 1-4)
• Arjuna expresses gratitude for Krishna’s teachings.
• He acknowledges Krishna as the Supreme Lord and the source of everything.
• Arjuna requests to see Krishna’s cosmic form to understand His divine greatness.

2. Krishna Reveals His Universal Form (Verses 5-8)
• Krishna grants Arjuna divine eyes to witness the limitless, all-pervading Universal Form.
• This form includes countless faces, arms, eyes, and divine ornaments, radiating unlimited power and brilliance.
• No one can see this form with ordinary eyes—only by Krishna’s mercy.

3. Description of the Universal Form (Verses 9-14)
• Arjuna sees countless divine beings, demigods, and sages within Krishna’s body.
• The entire universe is contained within Krishna—past, present, and future.
• Krishna’s form is unlimited, blindingly radiant like thousands of suns.

4. The Vision of Destruction – Krishna’s Role as Time (Verses 15-31)
• Arjuna sees all warriors on both sides of the Kurukshetra battle already destroyed within Krishna’s form.
• Krishna declares that He is Time (Kāla), the destroyer of all beings. (kālo ‘smi loka-kṣhaya-kṛit… – BG 11.32).
• He tells Arjuna to act as His instrument and execute his duty as a warrior.

5. Arjuna’s Fear and Surrender (Verses 32-46)
• Arjuna, trembling and fearful, bows to Krishna repeatedly, realizing Krishna’s absolute power.
• He apologizes for any offenses made in ignorance and begs for forgiveness.
• Arjuna requests Krishna to return to His original, gentle, personal form.

6. Krishna Returns to His Personal Form (Verses 47-55)
• Krishna explains that His Universal Form cannot be seen by studying the Vedas, performing sacrifices, or austerities—only through pure devotion (bhakti-yoga).
• Krishna reassures Arjuna and returns to His beautiful, two-armed personal form (Śyāmasundara).
• Final instruction: Only by exclusive devotion (bhakti) can one truly see, know, and enter Krishna’s eternal abode.

Conclusion

Chapter 11 reveals Krishna’s infinite power as the controller of the universe and emphasizes that:
1. Krishna’s Universal Form shows His all-pervading nature and the inevitable destruction of all beings by Time.
2. Arjuna, overwhelmed by the vision, realizes Krishna’s supremacy and surrenders completely.
